Background check for citizenship application

Hello,
I have a question. I was wondering why the background check in Citizenship application takes so long? Do they verify all the employment history in Canada and the home country with in the past 5 years? Do they confirm with the PR application or do a separate investigation for it?

Some house wives, who were Home Maker during the last 5 years also get stuck in security clearance for a while. No clue why this takes this much time for some people!

Okay. Thank you and do they open the Express entry/ PNP file again to verify all the details? Any idea?

my security screening took like a year to complete.... i have no idea why
