Hello, I'm from Pakistan. I have 3 degrees: 1. MBBS, 2. FCPS, 3. PGDiploma. MBBS perhaps is equivalent to Masters/Professional. Is my FCPS/PG Diploma equivalent to PhD? Is FCPS (Fellowship from College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan) recognized?

Fellowship is not considered a PhD. With an MBBS you will likely qualify for the score for a professional degree which is the maximum amount of points. Your school and degree need to be assessed first but if they pass the assessment you will be awarded points for a professional degree. A fellowship is considered an extension of your medical training not another degree in Canada. These days fellowships are almost required for most specialties. Are you aware that it will likely be extremely difficult to ever practice medicine in Canada especially if you are a specialist? I assume you are probably not fluent in French. You will have to pass your licensing exams and then redo your residency to practice in Canada but there are very few residency spots left after Canadian students have matched with a residency and most of the leftover residency spots are in family medicine, pathology, Public health and psychiatry and there Is a large number of IMGs competing for every spot. There is also a training program in 2 provinces where you job shadow but that is almost only for family doctors who are willing to commit to underserved areas. Canadian specialist can also have difficulty finding full-time employment when graduating especially in certain fields. That is a budget issue. If you want to practice medicine I would suggest applying to work in the UK or even in the US under J1.

Thank you so much for replying. It was very helpful. My fellowship is in pathology. If you can guide further in this regard, I'll be grateful. What are the pros and cons of having 4 year fellowship in pathology post MBBS......any relaxation in terms of licensing exam or getting jobs.

You need ECA through MCC for MBBS. No relaxation of licensing and you can’t work as a physician unless licensed so look at MCC requirements. Most people who immigrate as physician never practice again. You need to redo your residency in pathology.

So you need to calculated your CRS score and see if you would be invited. Right now over 490 and Canada is moving to skills based draws so your NOC will have to be selected too.
