Do the immigration officers verify everything that I list on my personal history?

Hi everyone,

During the time that I was doing my master's study in the US, I had a CO-OP job at a housing agency as a database engineer. I don't need to claim points for this CO-OP job, so I'm just going to put this job experience in my personal history (not in my work history).

My question is, will the immigration officer contact the housing agency by phone/email (or even pay a visit to that housing agency in person) to verify my CO-OP job just like how they will verify each period of my work history? I'm worried that after all these years, the staff there may forget that I worked there for a couple of months and give the immigration officer a negative answer, and the immigration officer will then think that I made a misrepresentation and turn off my immigration application. Do I have to ask someone that I worked with during my CO-OP to give me a recommendation letter, just like how I provide evidence for the jobs in my work history?

All serious answers are appreciated!

Thanks for your reply. Does the applicant need to prove the job in the personal history the way they prove the jobs in his work history? Do immigration officers visit where the applicant worked in person to verify?

You can relax.

You don't need to upload supporting documentation for work experience listed under Personal History.

Thanks for your time. Is it possible that immigration officers pay a visit to where I did my CO-OP to verify my CO-OP experience in my personal history? After all these years, most people I worked with has also left that company, which means that if the immigration officer randomly asks a person currently working there, this person may not even know that I worked there years ago and tell the immigration officer that I never worked there, and then the officer may think that I lied in my personal history, and reject my application.

IRCC does not have time to do personal Visits to anyone place lol. They will contact the HR team and verify, so that means via email or call. i am sure the company has an HRIS that holds information such as current and past employees' co-op or full-time, part-time, contract employees etc. if the company has no record of you, then that will prob look shady to them.

IRCC does not have the resources to visit or contact employers listed under "Personal history" in the applications they process.

The most important point here is that when you fill in the "Personal History", there cannot be holes in your list of activities and also, you have to make sure that there are no discrepancies with the information you provided in other sections.

If the IRCC does not have the resources to visit or contact employers listed under "personal history", and no solid proof like offer letters or recommendation letters or pay stubs is needed from the applicant, then how will the immigration officer confirm that all the information the applicant provide under "personal history" is both complete and correct, and that the applicant did not conceal or hide or lie about anything when he or she was filling the forms?

Thanks a lot.

If you want to claim points put it under Work history otherwise in personal history.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

"The company has an HRIS that holds information such as current and past employees' co-op or full-time, part-time, contract employees", this is what I've been worrying about, because during all these years, the owner of that company changed several times (even the name of that company changed too! Crazy!), and at least 90% of the staff has changed, meaning that if the immigration officer somehow needs to confirm my CO-OP information, and somehow contacts the company, and the person who answers to the immigration officer's query may say "sorry but I don't know a person whose name is "Lamawnag" that ever worked here." Then the immigration officer turns down my application because some of the information I provided is skeptical.

Looking forward to receiving your more-detailed reply!

There will always be procedural fairness IRCC will give you time to respond b4 they deny any application so you will have a chance to prove your case also if they contact the company i am sure that they will ask for the HR department and then HR will look into their system and pull your information and tell IRCC when you started working when you stopped working and that your status was Co-op.

So its not like they will call customer service and ask for you they will call and then ask for HR. stop worrying you will be fine lol

In general, IRCC will only verify the work experiences for which you are claiming points. In that case, they will check the company online presence, they might contact the person that signed the reference letter, etc. but they will rarely conduct in-person visits.

The Personal History section is just there to have an idea of what you have been up to since you turned 18 or over the last 10 years. One of its function, is to help IRCC pick up discrepancies with details provided in all other sections (Address history, Travel history, Work History and Education).
