Hello all,

I have sponsored my Parents through the Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship program, and they have been invited to apply. However, there is a slight problem, as I have failed to meet the income requirements for 2021.

Requirements:
2021: $40,444
2020: $39,672
2019: $50,414

My Income:
2021: $27,000
2020: $68,000
2019: $80,000

I didn't meet the requirement for 2021, but easily cleared the requirement in 2020 and 2019. The reason for me not meeting the requirement was that I left full time work to pursue a 2 year full-time MBA in 2020. I have now graduated, and now I am making enough to support my parents and myself.

So my question is, can my parents still apply? Or will their application get rejected due to me not making the income cutoff in 2021?

Any solutions to this problem? Can I write a letter explaining this situation? Will the immigration officers be understanding of the fact that I went to pursue grad school, and now my income situation is much better?

Thank you for reading this. And thank you for your help.

Warmest regards.

They aren’t eligible as you must meet LICO for 3 years, not just 2. A letter will not change that you are $13k under. That is a huge difference. IRCC have refused applications where income is only a couple of hundred dollars under LICO.

Do you have investment income in 2021? If so, this will count.

You need to maintain your income. A decision to not work and to attend school full time affect your ability to qualify to sponsor your parents.
If you planned ahead, you would have work part time to maintain that income requirement or sell some stock (to have some investment income) to create income during your schooling.

It maybe too late now. And you wont' qualify for a few years until at least 2025. (so income requirement would be 2022, 2023, 2024 if the rule stays the same)
