can someone who got their pr through her ex husband 1yr ago sponsor their friend/boyfriend over to Canada? little back story, she has been married for years but her ex husband filled for divorced 5 months after she got pr, she is looking to move on 1yr later.. I know about the 5 year pr sponsorship ban rule but does that also applies to visiting/tourist visa too?

Not sure what you mean for visitor visa, as there is no such thing as sponsoring a TRV. She can’t sponsor a boyfriend or friend anways until married or common-law. And then she must wait 5 years.

you technically can with invitation letter? you can write a invitation latter saying you will be sponsoring a friend to Canada for main purpose of just visiting Canada for 6 month or less..

You can invite someone to Canada but you are not sponsoring the person. The person must show their own funds, travel history, ties to home country, reason to visit.

yes but you can apparently you can add you will be paying for all their expenses etc in your invitation letter... " You may not sponsor a foreign national referred to as a spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner until you've been a permanent resident for five years".. is this strictly for PR application or all sponsorship in general?

But you are not sponsoring that person, you are inviting them. If you say you will pay all expenses then chances are low for TRV approval. The person must show his/her own funds.

PR is sponsorship. TRV, you are inviting a person to visit.

You can write this in the letter. It's not a sponsorship.

However writing this in the letter is not a good idea since it will lower the chances of the TRV being approved. The individual who is applying should be able to show that they can pay for the entire trip themselves.
