I totally understand! I think the PR card renewal is useless. The expiry of the PR card doesn't affect our PR status, so why not give the PR card with validity of 10 years or something? They don't track exits , if they do they can check the RO themselves. This is very stressful for people who might have to travel for emergencies!
So there was a change 2 years ago I think where they did start tracking exits. I do agree with your general point though. It totally screws travel plans and is unnecessarily stressful!
Sorry, I just learnt that "Only recently (~2019) did CBSA have exit records for Canadian citizens and U.S. citizens, but all other travellers have been tracked for years."
Not really fair to compare GC and PRC. Besides...it's waaaaayy more difficult to maintain the GC residency requirements than the Canadian PR R.O.
It only [potentially] screws travel plans if the PR doesn't follow the rules regarding PR Card renewal. Crossing at a land POE, for example, with an expired card is usually not an issue (unless the PR has not met the R.O.) and is in a private vehicle or on foot.

Agreed! There is clearly room for improvement, but until then...patience rules the day.
Since you appear to be a U.S. applicant, hopefully holding a U.S. passport, the real `need' for a renewed card is substantially lower than others. You can still travel freely (by commercial carrier) on just the strength of your passport, which is one reason that other PR's really do need their card ASAP.
Lots of assumptions in your comment! But thank you for your response. PS: Not holding a US passport. In fact, I need my PR card ASAP too since I dont have the privilege of holding a strong passport.
