Place of birth - different on passport and birth certificate

Hello All,

I received an invite for sponsoring my parents. I never required a birth certificate ever until now. My father was able to locate my birth certificate after about 30 years. But I just discovered my passport has a different place of birth than the actual birth certificate. They are two different cities in the same province. All my PR, COPR and Citizenship application carry the wrong place of birth. Being very honest gross negligence on my part ended up with a different city name in the passport and it never bothered me until now

Will this be an issue? or how should I over come this?

also my birth certificate was issued before my naming ceremony so it does not carry my name.

This seems complicated, I guess you must consult with an immigration attorney. Not sure if modds from here can help

I'd just include a short letter of explanation. No need to go into much detail, jsut be factual (mistakes were made or whatever; if it's your mistake, just admit it, or that your parents misinformed you). Let IRCC come back if they have some problem with it.

This is actually pretty common in a different way, where smaller cities absorbed into larger cities(passport often in newer name), but honestly some countries don't require proof of place of birth when issuing passports and they just issue it.

Yes right, this isnt end of the world. Something could be done, but the reason why I mentioned complicated is because there is a process in place to update the DOB, POB details on PR, COPR, Citizenship records. So not sure if OP has to go through this process as he/she is already a PR or Citizen with wrong POB on their account

I do not know if required to change, I doubt it. At any rate, personally I would not apply to amend during the process (for fear of it confusing things) but just do as I suggested above - letter of explanation.

Can't guarantee though so up to OP to decide. Regardless I don't think it's a big deal.

Hi I’m on same boat, I came to Canada on March 25,2014 on my record of landing my birthplace is different but country is same India, even I put the wrong city name while I was applying for my citizenship application. So now I have to apply for my Canadian passport should i put the right birthplace that is on my birth certificate and my Indian passport?

I think you should amend your Canadian citizenship record instead and put the same birthplace in the passport application.

Im still waiting for my oath ceremony it’s next week. should amend now or wait till my oath is finish and get my proof of citizenship and amend after that?
