Pregnancy with a 1 year PGWP

Hello Everyone,

I just learned that I am pregnant. My college will be finished on August, 2020. It was a 1 year program and then I was planning to apply for 1 year PGWP. I found a place to work. My first question is hopefully the baby will come on February so if I get any break from the work I will not complete my days which is necessary for Express Entry, because it is only 1 year work permit and I have to work exactly 1 year. Can I apply for extention of PGWP due to maternal leave?

Second question, is it mandatory to leave from work due to pregnancy? Because my work will be remote. I can handle it from home. I just need a laptop and phone. If I don't leave, I will not lose any days. This is the second option that I think..

No again, I don't believe that it's mandatory to take maternity leave, but most people prefer not to have a baby while at work. Your choice if your employer agrees.

No again, I don't believe that it's mandatory to take maternity leave, but most people prefer not to have a baby while at work. Your choice if your employer agrees.
I will probably consider second option. I believe my employer will not say anything. Pregnancy doesn’t detain me to apply PGWP right? Do I need to tell something about my pregnancy while applying PGWP?

Well, when your baby is born s/he will be a Canadian citizen so IRCC doesn't have to be informed. As you're applying under CEC you don't have to show proof of finances so change in family size - particularly a new Canadian - shouldn't affect your EE application.

Nothing happens. You take maternity leave. You may receive some benefits depending on the number of hours worked but it will not be a lot per month unless your employer tops up your benefits.

What province do you live in? Qualifying for healthcare can depend on proving full-time employment for over 6 months in Ontario for example. As already mentioned qualifying for maternity EI. depends on how many hours you have worked. How long is your PGWP. You want to have a continuous year of working in NOC 0, A or B to help you qualify for PR so taking maternity leave may make that difficult.

Hello,

First of all Congratulations for the baby . If you studied 2 years, then you will have 3 years work permit. You can get maternity leave but this will not count for 1 year CEC experience.

No. Maternity leave is based upon insurable hours worked . You can have a open work permit and zero insurable hours if one has never worked
Sorry. I thought she has insurable hours and wants to get maternity leave. If she didn’t work before, she can’t get maternity leave for sure. If she is eligible to get maternity leave then this doesn’t count for CEC.
