Hello, everybody.

I'm gonna land as a PR soon.

I'm thinking of using part of my savings in my proof of funds to rent a place in Canada. Therefore, I would be below the minimum when entering Canada. Is that a problem if they ask me for bank statements, etc? Can I just prove that I used that money for my settlement in Canada?

No one ask or care about the funds only if you carry more than 10K CAD let them know that you have such amount of cash. You can keep 3-4 K cash and later transfer the remaining via your bank or if you got work soon you probably don't need it.

I heard they ask for your proof of funds (16600 CAD - for a family of 2) and sometimes they ask for bank statements for you to prove.

They do ask for the proofs. In most cases they might not. But why take risk at the final step of becoming a Permanent Resident. Carry the proof if you have paid in rent. They will and should understand it I guess.
