OCI process

Hello all,
i am in the middle of document upload for OCI. And its asking me for spouse OCI, Relationship Certificate, PIO Card, and Indian Visa, which i don't have ? are all these documents mandatory?
Kindly let me know.

if you're applying based on your relation with the root Indian is "self", all you need is Canadian passport, photo, COPR and Indian Passport.

Hopefully I will pickup this week, do I need to wait for status change or I can go to pickup on this status ?

I would suggest give more paper work then they ask if submitting through pick avoid having more delays and return backs

yes, COPR should be as VISA document in the online application

I am traveling on October 5th. Still status shows sep 30 received at Toronto. Not sure when to go. On hold with bls customer care now.

If it;s received on September 30th, expect 7-10 business days before it comes to BLS if you opted for personal pickup or a week max for purolator delivery to your home. I dont think you will get it before October 5th though. The only thing you can do is to go to BLS and request for pickup somehow but I dont see that happening coz it goes to Consulate here for processing for a week.

I'd leave it on to you.
But in my case (so was for my spouse), we didnt upload/submit CoPR.

1) CURRENT PASSPORT 2) EMPLOYMENT/ WORK LETTER 3) PREVIOUS INDIAN PASSPORT OF SELF

But again, BLS is BLS. So precaution is always good.

Hi everyone, anyone got a clue if we can apply for surrender certificate + OCI on the same day at BLS Brampton? I live in India now so want to head back next month. Figured its better to do the OCI from here. Any info would be helpful! Thanks

Not sure, if anyone answered you already.

In Brampton/Toronto Jur, you CANNOT apply for SC and OCI together. You need to apply for SC first. Receive it and then apply for OCI. (I know of my friends in Alberta who did it together in 2021. But I hear, there also its changed now).

Now, I am not sure, how is it from India, though.

Help a brother


A quick rundown of my timeline

- Applied for Canadian Citizenship in Nov 2020

- Booked flights tickets in Feb 2022 (Travel date December 1st), 2022. Brother's wedding tentative sometime in December.

- Citizenship granted in April 2022 (yes it took 15 months)

- Citizenship certificate arrived after 35 days

- Started researching about OCI and Passport surrender process in May 2022 (travel date 6 months away at this point).

- Friends said OCI and passport surrender applications are to be submitted together (and Canadian passport is REQUIRED). That's how they did (I don't blame them).

- Applied for Canadian passport on 5 June 2022 (that's the earliest appointment I could find in anticipation of Citizenship certificate).

- Passports (spouse's and mine) arrived on 26 September 2022 (still waiting for daughter's passport).

It looks like OCI and passport surrender applications are no longer accepted (together). As of today, I don't see any October appointments on BLS either (earliest is Nov 10, 2022).

What do you guys think I should do now?

My thoughts are:

- Submit passport surrender application immediately via mail (for all 3 of us).
- Apply for Indian Entry visa via mail (declare both Canadian and Indian passports once daughter's passport arrives). BTW, there's no reference about passport surrender on Visa form. Am I missing something?
- Pray that Indian Government will approve it.

I know from this forum that the Surrender Certificates processing was faster (at least 1 month ago). You can do the SC. and then apply for Visa to travel to India. I know my friend who got Visa in total 5 days, for his kid. (meanwhile you can also have OCI in progress - They dont need originals for Toronto Jur).

I live in Toronto. Can I submit my OCI application at BLS Ottawa if I have an appointment there? (I happen to be close by around that date)
I haven’t seen a single slot open up at BLS Toronto or Brampton over the past few weeks whenever I’ve checked. Walking in isn’t feasible at the moment
