I am currently doing a postdoc at the United States and got a faculty offer from a Canadian university, starting Fall 2023. The international office at the university told me that I can apply for the express entry program from the United States before my arrival. However, after I submitted my application, it immediately got rejected and the website said "Based on the information you gave in your profile, you do not appear to meet the minimum eligibility criteria for any of these programs at the moment". I tried to find out why and I think the reason is that I don't have enough work experience. I was a postdoc (NOC: 4012) but my "primary occupation" is going to be a professor (NOC: 4011), that means I don't have "one year work experience in my primary occupation" and do not meet the Federal Skilled Worker Program requirement. (I am confident that my language skill and level of work experience are fine.) Does that mean the international office from my university was wrong in terms of accessing my eligibility for express entry? And is there any way for me to meet the express entry criteria soon, or am I supposed to wait until I've worked for a full year in Canada?

Hi,

This is true that in order to be eligible for express entry, you need to have at least one year of continuous foreign skilled work experience in last 10 years, otherwise you're ineligible. Also, If you're getting a job offer for the past experience then you can switch your primary occupation.

Further, FYI one shouldn't select the NOC code based on the job title, instead the focus should be on the job duties mentioned under an individual NOC code.
