Again, not sure I understand - your employer's concern is where you work, not where you reside. Unless your stated plans to reside make it impossible to fulfill your duties, it's not their business (except for administrative details like your residency address for tax purposes).
yeah I got it. I can be in Ottawa and commute to Gatineau to satisfy their terms to visit workplace.

Hi All,

I am in a conflict situation currently and this thread seems helpful in resolving doubts about staying in different provision than working. I have ICT closed work permit valid till Sep 2021 for Montreal, quebec.

I had worked in quebec for 13 months from October 2019 to November 2020 and returned to my home country india due to closure of assignment. Now I have to travel to same location for same client on another assignment once travel restrictions are lifted.
I have already submitted in PR application through CEC program on Feb 26 2021 . Medicals passed on Mar 12 2021 and no update since then.

My question is , can I travel and stay in ottawa and get DL , lease etc. to prove my intent to live outside quebec ? whether this would affect my PR application .

Also my payroll has address of my employer as toronto. I may have to pay taxes of Quebec as my work and work permit are for quebec employer.

I would appreciate any pointer from this thread. I tried requesting response in multiple thread but havent heard from anyone yet.

EMPLOYMENT LOCATION and RESIDENCY are completely different things!
There are people who work for a company in the US but are Canadian residents!!! There are people who have full time jobs in Alberta but they are considered Vancouver residents!!!
Please stop spreading false information!!!
If you are already a resident of Ottawa and your employment location is in Montreal you are still considered an Ontario resident and IRCC will treat your file as if you are already living in Ontario. I have colleges who work in Montreal but pay taxes to Ontario!
I am in the same situation myself! I have residency in Ottawa and my work is in Montreal! Guess what? I already got my PR and landed... Even when I applied for OHIP they said you can live here and work anywhere in Canada

Hi rajahoomi, I live in quebec, and i work remotely for a vancover company. If i want to apply for my PR what is the best chance? Do i need to leave quebec and stay in other province while applying for pr? How many months i need to stay in other province to be resident of that province? I don't have any lease on my name here in quebec.Thanks.

I work for an MNC which has Office locations in Ontario and its employees works in client locations of various provinces. Coming to my situation, i have work permit with work location as Montreal. My Question is can i apply for Express entry as my employer is based out of Ontario but intended work location is Montreal? do i get any kind of questions like asking proof to show leaving quebec etc?

I am in the same situation rented an apartment effective July 1st. employer provided a letter stating that I will be working remote (which am doing already) from Ontario. but employer says my pay stubs stays the same (Quebec) and said I can file taxes as Ontario resident later - they don't change since we don't have any company in Ontario.

I am confused a bit on that, I was in states quite a while it's very different there - employer can run payroll as per our residential address.

So I got two explanations in mind to include in LOE
1. future lease in Ontario and applying for jobs in non Quebec and resign after PR approval , and french.
2. future lease in Ontario and working remote for Quebec company. attaching proofs and employer letter stating ON residence.

what do you guys think ? which one would be better ? need to submit docs in a week. invitation about to expire.
What have you done finally? I am in the same situation

Hello all,

I am going through similar situation. I on PGWP, currently in Toronto. I got a job offer from a Quebec based company. I am wondering what I need to do from the below 2 options, in order to remain eligible for CEC:

1. Work for the Quebec based company remotely and staying in Ontario, with payroll under the Quebec office?
2. Work for the Quebec based company remotely and staying in Ontario, and request to have my payroll under an Ontario branch (if they have)

Also, I get a PR through CEC from Ontario, can I re-locate to Quebec afterwards?

Last question, if I work in the Quebec office for a year and later migrate to any other province, can I use that work experience for CEC?

Thank you and really appreciate your help!

Only answering the first part of your questions, I believe you can do either 1. or 2. since the requirement for express entry eligibility is that you need to physically live or intend to live outside Quebec.
I have a different but slightly similar situation, I relocated from the US to Canada through express entry and work remotely for my US employer via a Canadian subsidiary. The subsidiary is located in Quebec and processes my payroll, however I live in Ontario and work fully remote. The taxes deducted are Quebec taxes, but I will file an Ontario tax return. Based on this, I believe I am complying with the requirement to intend to live outside Quebec in the Express Entry program.

It is tough to say your employment in Quebec it may cause issue for express entry. Not as simple as just your residency status in Canada. If there is a possibility to being employed and paid out of an office not in Quebec I would do it.
Would it not be perfectly fine to work fully remote and work for a Quebec Employer? I am a FSW PR holder and started this after landing. My employment contract clearly mentions I will be working remote long term and I've signed a long term lease in Ontario and got an OHIP card.

You already have PR so your situation is much different than others who aren’t PRs yet.

Express Entry states that one must intend to reside outside Quebec, that's why even I need to comply with this rule even after getting PR for a reasonable amount of time. If I don't it can be classified as misrepresentation on a future citizenship or PR renewal application. It is an obligation to comply with the rule, even though one has the right to live anywhere in Canada. Obligations supersede Rights.

Agree but when applying for PR in this situation there is a good chance of receiving a procedural fairness letter. Many have been approved after justifying living in Ontario while working in Quebec. If you already have PR then starting a job while living in Ontario and working remotely for a Quebec company isn’t an issue.

Yes, it is not an issue for me, though I did setup my arrangement before I landed via an intracompany transfer. For CEC candidates, I can understand why they get a procedural fairness letter, but their cases are still approvable as long as they live outside Quebec and their employer clearly mentions that they can do this long term.

Hello,

Thanks everyone who have shared their experiences here.

has anyone who had a job in Quebec and lived in Ontario when applied for the express entry actually been approved and received their PR? That would be really helpful if a successful case would let us know so we won’t speculate. Thanks in advance :)

Hello everyone,
I am in process of submitting and completing my application for PR under cec. I am currently residing in Quebec with a job offer and working in Montreal. I have the option to work from home. I am writing a letter of intention to move from Quebec. These are the points that i am going to write:
1.) i am working as an engineer here to excel in engineering field it’s important to be a licensed professional engineer. Since getting a license from Quebec is not possible as it requires to give a french exam. So i have already applied for license from Ontario.
2.) french language as a barrier in my professional life.
3.) applied for job outside Quebec and uploading proof of that.
4.) since i am working remotely, i will move next month to ottawa and also the lease in montreal is expiring this month, so i will add proof of that . Also my offer letter states that i work remotely
Once i move to ottawa, i will update my address which will include gas bill, mobile bill, bank etc.
will these things be convincing for the officer?

I would recommend actually moving out of Quebec, getting a letter from your employer stating that you can work remotely from Ontario and establishing residency in Ontario by getting a health card and DL BEFORE applying for PR to be absolutely certain that you'll be approved.
