Hi ,

My PR is in process and I am on open work permit.

I have heard that after I get married I have to add my wife name to my PR application. but I Want to know can my wife get open work permit ?

What is the best way to bring spouse to Canada, considering I am on workpermit and my PR is under process ( applied through PNP - ontario ) ?

Waiting for your reply and thanks for reading.

Thanks
Karan

You're posting to the wrong section. Post your question to either the PNP or Foreign Workers section of the forum.

Not sure why you want me to post my question in PNP. My question is not related to pnp. It is more related to spouse immigration / work permit.

My intent is to bring my spouse to canada , considering i am on open work permit and my pr is in process.

I want to know what is the quickest way she can come to canada. I know if I add her name to my file , we will both get our PR together but this process will take lots of time.

so I wanted to explore other options.

This section of the forum is for people who are already PRs or citizens and are sponsoring family members for PR through the Family Sponsorship stream.

The people with similar situations to yours are in the PNP and Foreign Workers sections of this forum.

Are you planning on getting married before you land as a permanent resident? I believe you would have to declare her on your current application. Otherwise, if you land as single it is misrepresentation and your wife may never be allowed to come to Canada.

If you get married after you land, you will need to file a Family Class application for her. The quickest option will likely be Outland, where she would not get an open work permit. To get an idea of how long this will take, find a thread on here with the closest visa office to you and check out their timelines and find a tracking spreadsheet. The longer option (~2 years) will take much longer to process and she should stay in Canada but you will get an open work permit for her after 4 months.

OP is asking about a SOWP (spousal open work permit). These aren't available through spousal sponsorship. They are available in certain cases to Foreign Workers and individuals who have applied for PR through an economic immigration stream (e.g. FSW, PNP).

Ok - here's the big SOWP thread in the Foreign Workers section of the forum:

http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/spouse-open-work-permit-t103723.0.html

There are many more threads on SOWP there too (however I believe the above is the biggest).

You might be right, I read it as he wants her to come as a PR.

Open work permits are available after initial approval for inland applicants. OP is going to land as a permanent resident soon and is wondering how he can bring his wife (or current fiance?) with him to Canada once he's a PR. You might be right though, I read it as he wants her to come as a PR.
OP is asking how he can obtain an open work permit for his wife now (i.e. before he has PR). This is the SOWP process (not the OWP with inland family sponsorship process). There are specific rules regarding when individuals qualify for a SOWP (includes foreign skilled workers in some categories, international students who meet certain requirements, and in some cases those who have applied for PR through economic streams such as PNP and FSW/Express Entry). Since the SOWP process isn't related to the family sponsorship process - these questions are best asked in the sections of the forum I have indicated. I'm familiar with the rules related to foreign workers and international student - but don't feel comfortable commenting on the last category and don't want to give the OP bad info. There are tons of threads dedicated to the SOWP process in the Foreign Workers section of the forum.

Now I am confused. Are you sponsoring your spouse? This discussion is not posted in the right section and is about someone who is applying for PR trying to get SOWP while waiting for the PR application being processed. Both spouse and the main applicant were NOT PR. It's also an old post...
