PR after a 1-year post graduate certificate?

I know that doing a 1-year post graduate certificate program with hopes of PR is risky, but I'm curious. What are my options if I should decide to go that route? How can I make it work? Given that I will be eligible for a 1-year PGWP upon graduation.

Depends on your occupation and how many points you have under EE.

However overall you are right, a 1 year program is a risk option if your objective is PR.

Thanks for your comment. My occupation falls under NOC A. What CRS score should I aim to have at minimum for EE?

Saying your occupation falls under NOC A doesn't help to answer your question. We need to know the specific NOC since some provincial programs are NOC driven.

You want an EE score of at least 480 but more is better. Right now the draws are well above 500.

Sorry. My occupation currently falls under NOC 2011 - 5121 - Authors and writers. After my PG certificate, it will fall under NOC 2011 - 0124 - Advertising, marketing and public relations managers. Since I have no Canadian experience, I'm guessing I'll have to start out as a marketing executive.

It seems like there are no LIMA jobs available for marketing, so I wonder if I have any other options to stay in Canada after my PGWP expires if my EE application is not successful.

What are my chances of success with PNPs?

Your first occuation is not in demand and won't help you. I am not sure about your second occupation. You'll need to research if it's under demand in any province. It's not in Ontario. Look at other provinces.

Do you mean that the experience I've gained with my first occupation won't add to my CRS score?

My second occupation was included in Ontario’s Express Entry Human Capital Priorities stream this year though https://www.ontario.ca/page/2022-ontario-immigrant-nominee-program-updates

But I will have to wait till after 1 year of Canadian work experience to apply and I will have to leave Canada if my application is unsuccessful right?

Should I just extend my study permit and enroll in a second post graduate certificate program to get a 3-year PGWP?

So you have a year of continuous, full-time experience in NOC 0124? You can include 5121. What is your CRS score, education and program you plan to take.

I don't have experience in NOC 0124 yet. I'm planning to get that experience with my 1-year PGWP after a 1-year post graduate certificate program in marketing management. After that 1 year NOC 0124 experience, my CRS score will be 511, but the EE cut-off may be higher than 511 2 years from now right?

If I don't make the EE cut-off, is an LIMA job offer the only way I can stay in Canada after my PGWP expires? And since NOC 0124 is not in-demand, I can't get an LIMA job offer anyway right?

You know how tight your schedule will be? You must start working immediately after you graduate, meaning you have to secure your position while you are still studying. After one year you will be out of status, and you will have to go home to wait for ITA from EE. And if you are one day short from a year you are screwed.

Thanks for the reality check. I shouldn't be hopeful of getting an LIMA either right?

I'll just get another post graduate certificate right after the first one so that I can get a 3-year PGWP. Thanks a lot!

Just a side note, I don't think it is realistic for a PGWP holder to get a managerial position (NOC type 0) right after graduation - they usually promote someone rather than hiring someone from the outside.

Thanks for pointing that out. I guess my NOC after graduation will be 1123 - Professional occupations in advertising, marketing and public relations.

You don’t know what your NOC will be. You may not get a job in marketing at all. You are competing against many candidates with business and marketing degrees, even masters. You may not even get NOC B job.

What is your undergrad in? To get a study permit you must build on your education and show career progression in your home country. You need to justify why you need to spend tens of thousands in Canada with a higher paying job or promotion in your home country. Getting a study permit is not easy.

I know that I will need to differentiate myself to be successful. I've done that many times before so I'm not too worried about it.

I'm also working with experienced consultants to get my study permit. I'm not doing it on my own.
