Hello,
I am about to apply for citizenship but I have an issue with my old passport. Since I landed in Canada with PR, I had to renew my passport because it was expiring. I had to surrender the old one to the consulate, my country doesn't allow us to keep expired passports. I made a copy of every pages before giving it back, but I won't have the original to show when they request it. Will that be a problem? I will explain everything in a LOE but I'm not sure that will be enough...

Adding this in an LOE is a good idea since you will be asked for the passport if there's an interview. If available, you can attach any public notification such as a web page url from your home country's official sources that states as much.

If that's the standard procedure and if it's a country that sees a lot of emigrants to Canada, it's very likely the processing officer would already be aware of this. Even in Canada, I believe there's an option to voluntarily give up the expired passport at the time of renewal so this shouldn't be a big issue.

I recall seeing one or two similar posts in the past, you could search for those and ask those OPs how it went.

Good that you kept a copy…….always keep a copy no matter what……
Did u get new passport? How long it takes?
writing a letter is good enough….local cic offices probably have knowledge about all countries policies etc…..
Should not be an issue…..

I got my new passport shortly after landing, back in 2019. It took a couple of weeks. If I wait for 2025 to apply, will I still need to present the old passport since it's outside the 5 year period ?

No, but what you can do is keep a couple of copies, one for cic in case they ask and one fir yourself
Cic only wants/concern with the relevant period……

I changed my passport during the last 5 years, and my landing stamp was on the old one. I do have a copy of it but nothing else.

Its ok no worries. Don’t stress it, if you’re honest and upfront there is nothing to worry about.
its just a long process takes time
