So I just learned that at the oath ceremony I’ll have to cut my pr card in half.
I plan to travel internationally shortly after and probably won’t have a Canadian passport by then.
How can I return to Canada?

I thought of requesting a Canadian passport at the Canadian embassy/consulate of where I will be (Istanbul, Turkey).

Will that work?

In theory, yes. Normal procedure passport if you have all docs (incl citizenshp cert) might be 6-12 weeks, given current mess, possibly longer.

Temporary/emergency passport (short term or single use): perhaps a couple weeks, perhaps a lot less.

There IS a procedure to give you a visa in foreign passport (I think it's called a facilitation visa) but my understanding is extremely rare, like only imminent death circumstances.

Obvious perhaps but: some embassies/consulates of Canada are just better than others. Or service 'regulars' better.

So please explore carefully: if you're not in a rush to return, it's not necessarly a big deal. If you are in a rush, it can be. Preferable to secure visa before departing.
