Changing the university

Hello everyone,

I applied to enter Canada as an international student for the first time and my application was accepted. Now I changed the university , got accepted and paid the deposit. I did NOT enter Canada yet so I don’t have a study permit yet.

All I have done is changing my school DLI number from my account in the CIC but that is AFTER my visa application got accepted.

That’s what is written in the CIC

“ If your application for a study permit has been approved and you change your DLI, you must submit a new study permit application with a new letter of acceptance.”

Do I have to reapply for a study permit even though I don’t have a study permit yet ? I have only an email paper with a permit from the CIC.

Yes. You must submit new application with new LOA and pay all the fees.

But I don’t have a study permit yet, only entry visa as a student and a paper from the CIC with a permit, no DLI number is written

Avoid make own interpretation, all SP are issued at POE, but your authorization letter and trv are issued prior. Read the guideline attached on the link. You need to submit another application, that will void previous issued authorization letter and generate new one once approved. DLI are not printed on the letter but everything is linked with your UCI. You should have read the guidelines before changing DLI and pay deposit.

What’s the point of changing the school DLI in the CIC if I have to submit a new application

Do you think it will take that long again?

Processing time is very unpredictable because of the backlog, its hard to say

You can do that if you are in Canada and you are active student. if you are outside of Canada, you need to submit new application. I hope i answered your question

I can understand.I am in the same boat,have submitted my 2nd application on June 5th for Fall 2022.There is no other way.

You can do that if you are in Canada and you are active student. if you are outside of Canada, you need to submit new application. I hope i answered your question

I already have a visa , I have a paper with a study permit number
Will they give me another visa just because i changed the university!!

Isnt study permit issued at POE when u land in Canada.What we get after passport stamping is the study visa,no?

You mean no need to reapply for study permit if I changed university before enter Canada? I didn’t get a study permit yet

I already have a valid visa but I didn’t enter Canada yet so no study permit

You need to apply for the new Study permit. Once approved, you can use same TRV to travel
