Hi

Was wondering if like myself, anyone had applied for their passports outside of Canada? And also how long it took?

It's been 7 weeks and a day for myself an no news, contacted London High Commission 2 weeks ago via email to see if there was any way to track it however was told give it 8 weeks and then email.
Reading on IRCC website they said a web form enquiry could be sent in if it had been over 20 business/working days so I did that on the weekend just gone.

I know that right now passport processing in many countries is a nightmare and taking a lot long than they promise but thought I'd tap into experiences of other people on this forum.

What makes it worse as stated above is that there's no online tracker for an application sent in to see where it is in the process of getting printed and sent out.

Cheers
Dal

Can anyone help shed any light on this? I find it hard to believe that in all the users we have someone recently hasn't applied for a passport from abroad and not gone through the process.

If not I guess I'll be the 1st one perhaps (yes I know I won't truly be the 1st) but if nothing else I can share my experience to help others.

Cheers

Is this the 1st time you've applied for Canadian passport and from outside the country? You took oath and citizenship certificate in Canada and then traveled without Canadian passport or you got the citizenship outside Canada? Interesting, because I didn't know this was possible and may find myself in similar situation.

Yes so did oath in Canada but had to travel back to the UK, will be returning back to Canada in the near future but unsure of exact date. I was able to get my Citizenship certificate which I had to send with my passport application. I travelled back using my UK Passport.

How's life in UK?
Now that's certainly a question that could take hours if not days and days to answer, came back to take care of folks due to COVID.

God where to start, inflation is through the roof and petrol...sorry gas prices are stupidly high like Canada, energy costs (gas and electricity) by December will be rising to £3000 per year, the so called PM and Govt are bunch of liars where they set rules for lockdown and then have pissups behind closed doors. 1st PM in office to get a fine by police and yet he still states he didn't know what he was doing and barely survived a confidence vote by his own colleagues.
So yes politically the same as Canada whereby it's a joke although perhaps Trudeau is more stable right now than these idiots in the UK.
Second hand car market as gone through the roof in terms of price, taxes and National Insurance contributions (that pay for NHS and other services) have increased also.

Weather is something I miss MASSIVELY as summers were so warm and lovely in Canada here in June we've barely broken 22/23 degree on a handful of occasions. Oh and the idiots have brought back metric measurements and I'm waiting on when they'll switch the motorways from MPH to Kilometres per hour.

One huge pluspoint if being able to watch the football games....evening ones especially well in the evening as opposed to skipping work at 2.30pm in Toronto to be ready for the 3pm kick off lol!

I'll certainly be back one day soon to Canada as I can only see this country going further down the pan, pro's and con's wherever we live I know and so change will be inevitable.

Is this the same passport application form and papers/procedure for applying from outside Canada? Does one still need a Canadian guarantor and 2 references and do they have to be living in the same country where the application is made?

I believe the passport application form is the same barring perhaps a reference at the bottom of the form that may distinguish an internal application and overseas. As for the guarantor it does NOT have to be Canadian however you have a list of I believe 10-15 professions within which the guarantor must fall i.e. Police officer, judge etc and they can reside in the same country that you are residing in. References can also be 2 people that you've known locally and don't necessarily need to be Canadian references.

Not received it yet...this Wednesday will be 8 weeks bang on to when they received my application at the London High Commission and I'll be sending them an email chasing them up. Documents wise:

- Application form (which also needs to be signed by guarantor and provide 2 references details)
- 2 Passport pics (signed and dated by guarantor and stamped by studio)
- Copy of Passport (that's for instance my UK Passport copy - Signed by guarantor)
- Copy of ID (i.e. Drivers License - signed by guarantor)
- Proof of payment
- Original Citizenship Certificate

I believe that was everything.

Thanks
Dal

Add about 4-8 weeks in addition to in-Canada processing times, since production is still done in Canada and will be forwarded to the high commission. I believe 8 weeks are the current in-Canada processing times.

Hi BellaLuna

I understand why you may be adding on 4-8 weeks on top of current Canada processing times but intrigued as to how that figure was derived? Is that a guess-timation on your part or do you know someone that has had to wait 8-16 weeks?

I'm going to send them an email, in theory once the high commission has received my forms (approx 8 weeks ago) they should liaise with relevant office in Canada, send docs if can't be sent electronically and in theory shouldn't need to add on an extra 4-8 weeks extra on top of the current 8 week wait for applications made in Canada.

Thanks
Dal

Cheers...bang on 8 weeks today it's been since the submission of my forms etc so hopefully now the cowboys don't lose my Citizenship cert and the forms and pics that I've submitted. Also hoping that they've actually picked them up wherever they may be and are at least actioning them at some stage of the process.

Admittedly a guesstimate based on my own crappy experience with IRCC and some reports here when they asked their consulate, plus the High Commission’s website does say “approximately” themselves.
