Should I apply for a study permit extension first or apply for a visa first?

Hi everyone,
I returned to my home country several days ago. My visa is expired and my study permit will be expired on July 31st.
What should I do first now? Applying for a study permit extension or a visa to re-enter Canada? What kind of visa should I apply for? Visitor or Student visa?
I tried to do the questionnaire on IRCC and the result is a visitor visa. It doesn't have option for a study permit. I'm a little bit confused.

You can’t extend a study permit outside of Canada. Have you graduated and if so, when? You need a TRV to re-enter Canada right now. But may need a new study permit too.

When are you plannng to return to Canada because you will need apply for a TRV. Where do you live?

I'm in China now. I would like to stay until the summer ends. Do I need to return to Canada before my study permit expired? TRV is Transit Visa?

Right now you need a TRV (visitor visa) to return to Canada before your study permit expires. If you are not returning to Canada before your study permit expires then you need apply for new study permit. You may not get a new study permit by September. Better to return in July.
