Hi All,
Wanted to check if there are others who are in a similar state as I am: have been in Canada since Nov 2021 on a Work Permit. I read on the Immigration site that one needs an year of canadian work experience before the PR process can start. Is that correct, or are there other ways to start the process earlier and get in the line?
What is the best time to take the IELTS test, assuming that is a mandatory requirement?
What other documentation can we keep ready before starting the process?

Sounds like you need to do a lot more research.

No, you don't need to necessarily have 1 year of work experience in Canada to qualify to apply for PR. Research the PNP programs for the province where you are working. Also, you may be eligible to apply for PR through the FSW / Express Entry program.

Yes, IELTS is mandatory.

The other documents you need will depend on how you apply / through which program. You will need to dedicate time to researching this information.

Hi!
While one year work experience is not required for some of the PNP, one year experience is certainly required to meet eligibility requirements for CEC and all the PNP EE streams. It's advisable to gain some Canadian experience before applying for PR in certain streams and provinces, unless one has foreign work experience already.

Hi!

Do you have any foreign work experience? If yes, you might be able to apply for some of the PNP streams considering you meet the eligibility requirements. FSW draws are resuming in July, so that could be another option. If no, you'll have to work one year in Canada before applying.

You gain some points for having a Canadian work experience. Yes, the English test is required. The best time to take the exam would be anytime just before you create your EE profile. The other required documents would depend on the stream(s) you apply to.

Yes I do have foreign experience, and below is what led me to believe that I need the 1 year before applying. But maybe there are other classes I did not explore like you've been saying.

Am I eligible to apply as a permanent resident under the Canadian Experience Class?
To be eligible, you must:
  • have at least 12 months of full-time (or an equal amount in part-time) skilled work experience in Canada in the three years before you apply
