for the soft copy, only front side is required.

For the hard copy, it should have the stamp of the photographer on the back.

Can the soft copy be different to the hard copy? Like a different photo of the hard copy when they ask?

You need soft copy when you submit application online....
Later on once the application is approved, for PR cards, they will ask for hard copies... and that can be a different one.
