If you get a cell phone plan or open bank account, you will get a monthly statement for you to use as proof of address.

Without a job I would not be renting an apartment. Figure out where you can get a job first. Within a city renting in the wrong area could mean that some jobs aren’t possible without many hours of commuting/driving per day or not possible if you are dependent on public transportation. Renting an apartment also limits your potential job opportunities to that city. If you are looking for a job close to minimum wage you can find jobs in any city but higher skilled jobs may require you to move to another city or province.

A rental agreement for a few weeks from a family member means nothing.
