Passport request letter (Outside Canada)

Hello!

I have passed my citizenship test online OUTSIDE Canada in December'21.
I've just received a letter requesting copies of all passport pages as well as evidence of exit and return to Canada.
They want me to send this once returned to Canada, however I am dealing with family matters in my home country and I'm afraid I won't be able to return soon.

The only step left in my application is taking the oath at the ceremony.

anybody in the same situation?
How can I request to take the oath outside Canada?

No. I dont think they will allow Oath taken outside Canada.

Clearly the Oath is not the only step left in your application because they are asking you to send all the passport pages to verify your 1095 days. You can make your request by replying to the email you received.

I also got the request while outside. However, I sent them via email before the interview.

During the Oath ceremony, the first question asked is to confirm that you are physically in Canada. In all my time on this forum I've only heard of one case who was permitted to take the oath outside Canada, (a member's friend's friend, or something to that effect) which you could take with a pinch of salt. So it would be safe to assume that this is not possible.

it seems that IRCC started asking people who done the citizenship test outside to come back. It is just a way for them to complicate matters!!! what if someone cant return for a while?!! they simply keep his application in prcess until he loses his residency status!

I dont think that residency status matters at all, since we were all allowed to leave after sending out citizenship applications.

This is interesting because they just asked me for copies of my passport without the proof of returning to Canada. I did my test outside Canada as well.

What I find strange is that they are asking people to return to Canada before scheduling the oath ceremony. What about those of us who now live abroad and cant simply go to Canada for several weeks or months? They should only request proof of being in Canada on the day of the oath, so that we can simply make it a day trip.

I dont think that residency status matters at all, since we were all allowed to leave after sending out citizenship applications.

It does. If you loose your PR status before becoming a citizen because of not meeting RO, you cannot become a citizen.

Yes, in the interview email they asked me to send passport copies. My interview happens next Thursday.

Hi,

I received the same letter from IRCC. I was in USA so was able to come back to Canada and sent all the required docs like boarding pass, tickets, along with Passport copy to IRCC.

I hope this will help them make a decision on my application.

I did my test outside of Canada and with the test invitations Passport was also requested that was 5 months ago and since then I did not see any activity/updates in my application status.
Now, I was requested to send the passport copy and other supporting docs "AFTER RETURNING TO CANADA", sorry but there is a big chance they may ask you to do the same.

Did you return to the US after submitting the documents? I will be in a similar situation but will be in Seattle, a driving distance from Canada. Did you update your address to your US address?

It sounds inevitable to take the oath ceremony in Canada not from outside .. but in my opinion the question is what should be the best answer for the officer's request in this case ? Should you go back to Canada as soon as possible and wait for the oath letter (maybe for months)? Or better to give them a tentative date that is convenient for you to go back, risking a longer delay in processing your file ?
