Travel to Mexico with RTD that expires in 2 months

That is correct, but basic rule is you need to have validity of 6months.... check with the consulate

PRs who have an RTD are not always considered the same as PRs with a home country passport.

I agree with this comment. To the best of my knowledge, Mexico will only allow you into the country if your passpord validity is at least 6 months. My guess is that the same rule probably applies to someone on an RTD. I think the RTD likely needs to be valid for at least six months.
