PR Card Renewal Timeline Advice

Greetings CanadaVisa!

Read up on older threads relevant to PR card renewal and RO requirements, just seeking your advise on timing the renewal and travel plans. Here's the situation:

PR Since/CoPR Landing: Feb 10, 2018
PR Card Validity: Mar 16, 2023
Passport: Non-US Passport
Moved into Canada: Sept 26, 2021
RO days = only 24 days between Feb 10, 2018 and Sept 26, 2021
RO: Accompanied 3 x Canadian citizens (wife and 2 kids) outside of Canada since Feb 10, 2018, with plenty of proof (property ownership, tenancy agreements, pictures, etc)

Proof of Permanent Settlement: Rental Agreement since Oct 4, 2021, and Property Purchase Agreement Feb 25, 2022 (crazy bidding wars!!) + mortgage to kick-in on closing date May 2022, OHIP card done, Driver's License, automotive loan, bank accounts, kids in school, Canadian wife (sponsor) works, definitely settling in.

Would the following timeline be the best scenario?
- Okay to travel for work on need to basis to US or emergencies back home in Asia before Mar 16, 2023?
- PR Card expires Mar 16, 2023, definitely no travels until Dec 2023 (to fulfil RO days > 730)
- Submit application for PR Card Renewal in Dec 2023

Edit: Would it be advisable, even though we could "prove" the accompanying-Canadian-citizen, to renew the PR Card earlier say Dec 2022? Having a valid PR card will help as there might be requirement for "essential work travel" instead of waiting for Dec 2023 (then plus 70+ days for processing).

For the accompanying a Canadian citizen rule, IRCC will sometimes apply the who accompanied whom rule. So even if you have strong evidence, it doesn't mean you can count that time. If the primary reason you were outside of Canada was due to your job, etc. - then IRCC may not let you count the time. An example of this would be if you soft landed, returned back to your home country and continued working there. If, on the other hand, you moved outside of Canada to a different country primarily due to your Canadian's spouse's job, that would count. Long story short, you may not be able to rely on this rule.

To answer your other questions:
- You can certainly travel up until your PR card expires without issues.
- You should only submit the PR application once you have at least 730 days in Canada within the last 5 years.

Thanks for this scylla for confirming my thought. I will not push my luck by renewing early - just have to manage my work travel schedules to ensure I get my 730 days.
