Should I get Passport renewed in Canada or back in India?

Hi,
I came to canada as a PR in the month or March 2010, I am going back to India for a few months in August, 2010. My passport(issued from India) expires in December. Should I get it renewed here or while back in India in August? The points of consideration are:
1. What is the fee applicable here in Canada? I could not find mention of any fee on the website link www[dot]cgivancouver[dot]org . I would like to save money if its cheaper back in India than here in Canada.
2. The website says it takes around 40 days for a passport issued from India. Since now it is almost beginning of July and I have to leave in mid august, should I go for renewal here or back in India?

I would say here in Canada to avoid unexpected circumstances.

I already have got my PR card. I have my SIN no. I shall be in India for 4 months at least. Would'nt there be enough time to get it renewed from there? I am afraid that If I send off my passport for renewal here in Canada it might not reach me back in time (as I mentioned, the website mentions it might take 40 days). I have to leave for India in mid-august.

Calculate your priorities but sure passport issued from Canada is proof of your presence in Canada in the event if you lost your PR for some reason.
