For those interested, this is how my increase in points happened.

My wife has a masters and we sent it off to a university in BC (British Columbia) to get evaluated it by BCIT International Credential Evaluation Service (ICES). This was worth an additional 10 points taking us from 379 to 389.

My wife also sat the IELTS on the 29th July for the second time. She sat in back in 2012 or 2013 and aced it with full marks. This time she had an off day and didn't get full marks in the listening or writing sections.

Note to self: Must refrain from making jokes about how it doesn't take a international language assessment organisation to tell me my wife doesn't listen!

So our marks for this section increased by 18, not the 20 we were hoping for, bringing our total up to 407.

So here we are at 407 and now able to hopefully get an Ontario NOI or straight ITA if the CRS continue to drop through the rest of this year. Hope lives on!

(At that time ICT and In-demand list was there and my NOC was no where near those numbers.) So people were suggesting to wait and i applied first and then gathered documents in 9 days for OINP. Got nomination in 5 days and then ITA very next day. So now i have e-AOR with 20 days passed. even if they take exact 6 months to give PPR, i will be okay with it..

Just start gathering all docs related to OINP or for PPR as well as a back-up plan and moment they open, just register immediately and then to upload file in 14 days. Life is so unpredictable sometimes and we should not miss a single chance to reach at our common destination.

Please forgive me for asking a newbie question on the wrong thread, but my friends are all here on this one.

As you know I'm am now at 407 CRS. If my wife resits the IELTS and actually listens this time (forgive me darling if you're reading this! ), then she might get full marks and with me as primary applicant we will have 409. Every point counts so we might pursue this avenue.

We both are very similar points wise:

• Both speak english as first language and therefore should be able to get full marks here
• Both hold a Masters recognised by Canada
• Both are IT Managers and have over 6 years experience in last 10 years, so same NOC

Where we differ is age. She is two years younger than me.

If she sat the IELTS again, obtained full marks and we reverse who the primary applicant is then our points will jump from 407 (as it is now) to 429 due to her getting more points in the age category.

My wife has been a full time mum for the last 18 months to look after our kids and we do not want this to change. Indeed when we move to Canada we will need her to be a full time mum since we won't have a family support network. We don't want to try and fool immigration officials and say my wife will work, because that's not true. I will be the one who finds a job and works.

Now for my question. My understanding is that if we were to switch primary applicants, raise our score to 429 and obtain an ITA, then it would be perfectly legal and above board for my wife pursue this ITA with the intention of not working. If fact, by my reading I'm not sure that the direct ITA route really asks any questions about who is going to work or in what profession.

Am I correct?

I think you are correct. What would be your score if you switched primary applicants without her retaking IELTS?

You're absolutely correct! Nothing obligates her to start working.

Me too wanted to do the change, because my husband is 2 years younger than me, but then he needs to re-take IELTS since he got in writing 5.5, which is not enough. If we did it, our CRS would be 431 with him being primary applicant. We will wait another month or so and if nothing happens with cut off we will change tactics.

Good question. I did this and our score goes from 407 now to 360 with her as primary applicant!

A high IELTS makes such a significant difference!
