    Overview

    This pathway to permanent residence is aimed at foreign nationals who are proficient in French and have at least one year of Canadian work experience in an essential occupation. One of the goals of this pathway is the retention of French and French immersion teachers to address the shortage of French language teachers in Canada outside of Quebec. There is no intake cap for this pathway.

    This pathway was open between May 6, 2021, and November 5, 2021.


    Eligibility Criteria

    Criteria for principal applicants:

    • Have acquired at least one (1) year of full-time or equivalent part-time work experience in Canada in one or more of the eligible occupations within the 3 years preceding the application;
    • The year of work experience must be gained in one or more of the eligible occupations listed below:
      • Stream A: the one year of work experience must have been acquired in one or more occupations listed in Annex A. Experience cannot be combined with Annex B occupations.
      • Stream B: the one year of work experience must have been acquired in one or more occupations listed in Annex B, or in a combination of occupations in Annex A and B.
    • Be employed in Canada at the time of application;
    • Must not be self-employed unless working as a medical doctor in a fee-for-service with health authority.
    • NCLC of at least 4 in French for each of the four language skill areas;
    • Reside in Canada with valid temporary resident status (or be eligible to restore their status) Intend to reside in a province or territory other than Quebec;
    • Have submitted an application for permanent residence using the forms provided by IRCC for PR pathway, including all the required proof that you meet the conditions of this program;
    • Have applied online.
    • Meet admissibility requirements

    Criteria for family members of principal applicants living in Canada:

    • Reside in Canada;
    • Be included as an accompanying family member in an application for permanent residence under this policy;
    • Meet the definition of a “family member”
      • The spouse or common-law partner of the principal applicant;
      • A dependent child of the principal applicant or the principal applicant’s spouse or common law partner;
      • A dependent child of a dependent child.
    • Meet admissibility requirements; and
    • Be approved by a delegated IRCC officer.

    Criteria for family members of principal applicants living outside Canada:

    • Be included as an accompanying family member in an application for permanent residence under this policy;
    • Meet the definition of a “family member”;
      • The spouse or common-law partner of the principal applicant;
      • A dependent child of the principal applicant or the principal applicant’s spouse or common law partner;
      • A dependent child of a dependent child
    • Meet admissibility requirements; and
    • Be approved by a delegated IRCC officer.

    These occupations are predominantly in healthcare, but do not include veterinary positions. Occupations are organized by NOC code.
