Jason Kenney, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister, recently announced that the Government of Canada will provide $22 million to fund the Bridge Training Program. The training program is aimed at helping skilled immigrants better integrate into the Canadian labour market.

In addition to helping immigrants find jobs, the program also helps skilled immigrants to get Canadian licensing if they work in a regulated profession. Others are given specific training for regulated and non-regulated careers.

“This program helps skilled immigrants in Ontario enter and integrate into the Canadian labour market,” said Minister Kenney. “It is absolutely critical to engage employers in this process, and this program does just that.”

The Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario have been funding the program since 2007-08. Since then, more than 200 projects have been funded. More than 35,000 immigrants living in Ontario have benefitted from the Bridge Training Program.

The Bridge Training Program is one of the many settlement programs the Government of Canada and Ontario have provided to new immigrants.
