In less than one month, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) will be announcing the new list of qualifying occupations for the Federal Skilled Worker program. Currently, applicants must have at least one year of skilled work experience in one of the 29 open occupations or have valid job offer from a Canadian employer.

Under the current Federal Skilled Worker Program, each of the 29 occupations (NOC) has a cap of 1,000 applications that are accepted per NOC. Five occupations have already reached the cap. If you have at least one year of paid work experience in one of the 23 remaining occupations, you should apply as soon as possible as CIC has not announced which occupations will be open on the new list.

Here are the remaining 23 qualifying occupations:

 

  • 0811 Primary Production Managers (except Agriculture)
  • 1233 Insurance Adjusters and Claims Examiners
  • 2151 Architects
  • 3111 Specialist Physicians
  • 3112 General Practitioners and Family Physicians
  • 3142 Physiotherapists
  • 3215 Medical Radiation Technologists
  • 3222 Dental Hygienists & Dental Therapists
  • 3233 Licensed Practical Nurses
  • 4151 Psychologists
  • 4152 Social Workers
  • 6241 Chefs
  • 6242 Cooks
  • 7215 Contractors and Supervisors in the Carpentry Trades
  • 7216 Contractors and Supervisors in the Mechanic Trades
  • 7241 Electricians (except Industrial and Power System)
  • 7242 Industrial Electricians
  • 7251 Plumbers
  • 7265 Welders and Related Machine Operators
  • 7312 Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanics
  • 7371 Crane Operators
  • 7372 Drillers and Blasters - Surface mining, quarrying and construction
  • 8222 Supervisors in Oil, Gas Drilling and Service
