The study also found that immigrants who choose to settle in the Atlantic Provinces are more likely to find work and earn higher salaries than recent immigrants in Ontario. One reason for the difference may be due in part to the fact that many immigrants in the Atlantic Provinces immigrated to Canada to fill a specific professional position, rather than to just start a new life in Canada. These provinces also recruit professional newcomers to high value positions, which means that the newcomers decide to stay in the province rather than moving out West.
While the trend in the past was for immigrants to arrive in the Atlantic Provinces and then move West, many newcomers who arrive in cities such as Vancouver and Toronto, now find themselves packing their bags for the East coast.
