Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Canada Minister Jason Kenney announced this week that the Canadian permanent resident card has been redesigned with new, enhanced security features.

Kenney said that the security features added to the card will protect the integrity of Canada's immigration system and discourage the use of fraudulent documents.

"Thanks to state-of-the-art security features, this redesigned permanent resident card will help prevent the fraudulent use of Canada’s immigration documents and protect the integrity of our immigration system," said Kenney.

The redesigned cards are being issued to new permanent residents starting this week, while permanent residents holding the previous version of the card will only be issued the newer version if their current card expires and they apply for a new one.
