Saskatchewan's unemployment rate for October was just 5.7%, lower than the national unemployment rate, which is currently at 7.9%. Saskatchewan’s economy continues to fuel job creation—the number of job postings in Saskatchewan is higher now than at any other time during the past two years.
Saskatchewan employers posted more than 10,500 job openings in October 2010, an increase of 19 per cent over the same month last year. Those looking for a job in Saskatchewan are finding many opportunities and can find a good quality of life in the province.
Of the 10,500 jobs posted during the month of October, 2010:
• almost 75% were full-time positions;
• more than 50% were located outside the major cities of Regina and Saskatoon; and
• more than 25% were in transportation and the trades.
A recent survey showed that more than 40% of business owners in Saskatchewan are feeling they need more skilled workers.
