Quebec Immigration Minister Yolande James recently announced that the first $900,000 of Quebec's $6 million settlement funding will go to nine groups located in Villeray, St. Michel, Ahuntsic-Cartierville and the east of Montreal Island, where there are significant immigrant populations. The goal is to help 600 newcomers secure employment through these community organizations.
Quebec will be providing the total $6 million over the next three years to 50 or so community groups that give personalized advice to new immigrants about how to get their education and work experience recognized or upgraded so that they can find work in their fields.
Minister James said that the targeted groups are immigrants from North Africa, as well as women and visible minorities.
