Program that helps immigrant IT professionals integrate into Canadian workforce to expand
A
British Columbia-developed program that helps internationally-trained Information Technology (IT) professionals integrate into the Canadian workforce is looking to expand across Canada.
The Information Communications and Technology Council (ICTC) developed the Integrated Work Experience Strategy (IWES) to prepare IT professionals for the workplace culture and dynamics in Canada. It involves a six-week course and three months of on-the-job coaching, on ‘soft skills,’ including tips on communication styles and interpersonal behaviour. As well, participants are encouraged to attend workshops and networking events.
Funding was provided by the government of Canada’s Foreign Credential Recognition Program and ICTC worked with SUCCESS, a network of immigrant settlement services.
It is now available in
Ontario as well, with funding from the provincial and federal governments.
