The minority Conservative government tabled a bill on March 14, 2008 that proposed amendments to Canada's Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA). At that time, the government indicated that the bill would come up for second reading on March 31st.
However, the government decided not to bring the bill forward yesterday. It will likely not come up for second reading until later this week or early next week.
Thereafter, the proposed amendments will likely go to a Parliamentary Committee for consideration, which can take up to 60 days. Although our law firm cannot be certain of a definitive timeframe in which the proposed bill could become law, rest assured that the we are monitoring the situation closely and will be posting the latest updates on the Immigration News section of www.canadavisa.com as they happen.
