The welcome news reached Mr. Kazemian in the nick of time, as he was in police custody awaiting deportation.

Citizenship, Immigration, and Multiculturalism Canada (CIMC) Minister Jason Kenney will be heading to New Delhi, Amritsar, Chandigarh, and Mumbai fromJanuary 11 to 18. He will be reviewing Canadian immigration operations in India and meeting with his India counterparts to discuss recent changes in Canadian immigration policy and to work on further strengthening relations between the two countries.

Canada has plenty to be proud of this week thanks to a study showing the successes of multiculturalism in the country. In a survey of 23 countries in the Western world, Canadians showed themselves to be among the most tolerant across the board in the categories measured.

There is cause for celebration in Canada today, as a survey of 16 countries shows Canadians to be leading the back in health, happiness and quality of life. According to the survey, this news should be quite well received, as over 90 percent of working Canadians described themselves as happy, with the figure jumping to 95 percent for retirees.

Monday, May 15, 2006 - the Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, introduced a new bill in the House of Commons to reform the Citizenship Act. The plan is intended to streamline the foreign adoption process by amending bureaucratic hurdles that lengthen the time it takes to unite Canadian parents with their foreign-adopted children.

Both rural and urban communities in the province of Saskatchewan saw significant increases in immigration in the past year. The Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) attracted over one thousand nominations in 2006, the largest number to date, which added to the 26 per cent rise in the annual number of immigrants landing in the province. With 2,658 landed immigrants in 2006, the government of Saskatchewan is continuing to implement its “bold strategy to attract 5,000 newcomers annually by 2008.”

Statistics Canada’s most recent census, which covers the period from 2001-2006, indicates that immigrants to Canada are responsible for two thirds of the country’s population growth. With the total Canadian population swelling to 31.6 million, the Canada-born populace increase of 400,000 was well outdone by the additional 1.2 million immigrants over the five-year span of the census.
