This week the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, announced the appointment of a new Chairperson for Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB). Lawyer Brian P. Goodman will take over the lead of the immigration tribunal for a period of 4 years.

New Canadian citizenship law takes effect

As of April 17, 2009, Canada's new citizenship law has done two things. Firstly, it has retroactively restored Canadian citizenship to many who had lost it due to obscure and outdated provisions in past legislation. Secondly, it has henceforth limited citizenship by descent to first generation Canadians.
