International students in Canada must obtain Off-Campus Work Permits to be eligible to work in Canada while they carry out their studies. Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has now made the application process easier and more efficient by allowing applications to be submitted online.
International students can complete, sign, pay for, and submit their applications directly on the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website.
“By making it easier for international students to work off campus, we are making Canada a more attractive destination for international students,” stated CIC Minister Diane Finely. “We want foreign students to choose Canada. We want them to gain experience, and to contribute to our economy while they are here. Making our services easily accessible will help us do that.”
CIC has been testing the system as a pilot project since June 2008. 424 international students have applied electronically since that time.
