A new program in Halifax, Nova Scotia, connects new immigrants in the city with local employers, enabling newcomers to begin establishing contacts in Halifax after their arrival in Canada.
The Halifax Connector Program introduces immigrants to well-connected people in the Halifax community, called “connectors,” who in turn introduce the immigrants to three of their best professional contacts.
Each of these contacts also introduces immigrants to three of their professional contacts, allowing the immigrant to establish a network and integrate more swiftly into the Halifax labour market.
By staying in touch with these contacts, immigrants can maintain and grow their support network in Halifax, to ensure their successful settlement in Canada.
The program opened its doors in July, and has already attracted more than 50 connectors and 19 newcomers.
The Halifax Connector Program is administered by the Greater Halifax Partnership, a public-private sector partnership committed to growing the Halifax economy.
