The Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) in Ottawa is spearheading a study to forecast changes in the IT labour market from now until2015. The results of the study will help the ICTC prepare for the predicted 89,000 IT workers that the sector will need between now and 2010.
The reportwill also be looking into the “re-skilling and re-training” aspect of the Canadian immigration process for IT professionals.
Enrollment in computer sciences courses continue to decline in Canada and companies are increasingly looking overseas for foreign IT talent . Foreign-trained IT workers have valuable expertise in offshore project management, a skill that is more and more in demand in the Canadian labour market.Their knowledge of their home country language and culture also helps their Canadian business manage offshore projects in that country.
Right now, there is a pressing need for information technology expertise in the areas of IT risk, .Net, project management, and business analysis, a trendthat is projected to continue in the future. Canada needs to pick up the pace in the IT sector in order to participate in the global development of theindustry. Companies are anxiously trying to fill the many IT jobs in Canada
