As part of International Women’s Day, Calgary will be holding a special event celebrating women from different cultures. The special event, entitled “Celebrating the Roles of Multicultural Women”, will be partially funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC).

The organization who is hosting the event, Women’s Voice, will be receiving $1,350 from CIC for the special event.

Dr. Alice Wong, who is a Member of Parliament for Richmond and who is also Parliamentary Secretary for Multiculturalism, announced the decision for the funding on behalf of Immigration Minister, Jason Kenney, “By funding events like this one, we help showcase the diversity of our country, and the many talents and skills of multicultural women. The Government of Canada is delivering significant funds to people from various cultural backgrounds to celebrate different cultural and faith communities and help them to integrate with all Canadians.”

International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8th in numerous countries worldwide as a day to honour the economic, political and social achievements of women of the past, present and future.
