In 2011, more than 26 percent of BC’s residents were born outside of Canada. This number continues to grow each year. This has helped make BC the most diverse province in Canada.
BC’s growing multi-ethnic demographic is an important element of the province’s economic success. Both temporary and permanent workers are tapped to fill labour shortages in a variety of industries, including the booming mining and natural resources sectors.
As the BC’s population ages, the demand for young bright minds from abroad grows more and more. With a population of approximately 4.5 million, 700,000 of those are 65 years of age and older. As these individuals reach retirement age, opportunities for new workers continue to grow.
