According to the new QS World University Rankings, Montreal’s McGill University is the top-ranked university in the country. McGill moved up from 19th place last year to 17th place worldwide this year.

McGill has consistently been ranked among the top 25 universities in the QS rankings. McGill University has been placed in the top quarter of the rankings for eight consecutive years. It ranked its highest in 2007 in 12th place.

"As we are celebrating our 190th anniversary this year, it’s nice to know we are holding up our responsibility to fulfil James McGill’s mission for a secular university of great stature," noted Heather Munroe-Blum, McGill’s principal and vice-chancellor, in the Vancouver Sun.

McGill University is the oldest university in Montreal and was founded in 1821. McGill has two campuses, 11 faculties and more 300 programs of study. More than 36,000 students attend McGill each year, including many international students from countries all over the world.
