A new Express Entry draw has set a new low for 2018 with its minimum Comprehensive Ranking System score of 440. The May 23 draw issued 3,500 new Invitations to Apply, continuing a trend established over the previous three invitation rounds.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) implemented the 'tie-break' procedure for this latest draw, selecting candidates from the Express Entry pool who submitted their profile on or after December 30, 2017, at 06:39:40 UTC. 

This means that all candidates in the pool with a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score above 440, as well as those candidates with scores of 440 who submitted their profile before the tie-break date and time, received an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in the May 23 draw.

In order to enter the federal Express Entry pool, individuals need to first meet the eligibility criteria for one of the three immigration programs managed through the Express Entry system: the Federal Skilled Worker Class (FSWC), Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTC) or Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

Once in the pool, candidates are assigned a CRS score based on factors such as education, work experience, language ability, and other criteria. A candidate's CRS score determines his or her ranking in the pool. Candidates who are issued an ITA must apply to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada for permanent residence within the 90 days of receiving the invitation.
