Specialized English and/or French language training programs, tailored for the profession in which newcomers plan to work, are becoming increasingly common.
Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) and Canadian professional organizations have been creating and funding these programs, which give immigrants the vocabulary and knowledge necessary to work in Canada in their field.
The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) is the latest such organization. With funding from the Government of Canada, specialized languagetraining will be provided to 40 environmental engineers who were trained abroad. The language training will be delivered as part of the TRCA’s ProfessionalAccess and Integration Enhancement Program, which also offers a 12 month full-time job placement service to environmental engineers in an environmentalengineering host organization.
