The province of British Columbia saw 9,000 new jobs added to its workforce. Ontario and Newfoundland and Labrador also saw significant gains in employment.
While the majority of jobs added last month were part-time, full-time employment growth is outpacing part-time employment growth. Additionally, high-paying jobs are now outnumbering low-paying jobs by approximately three-to-one.
The group of people experiencing the fastest rate of job growth was women aged 55 and over, who gained an additional 29,000 jobs.
Statistics Canada also noted that the highest gains of employment in April were in the fields of insurance, finance, real estate, business, building, and other support services.
