IRCC invited 392 Express Entry candidates to apply for permanent residence in a draw held on January 5, 2022.

Only Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates were invited in the new draw.

The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score cut-off to get an Invitation to Apply (ITA) was 808 points.  PNP candidates receive an additional 600 points towards their Express Entry score when they receive their nomination.  This is why PNP draw scores have higher minimum score requirements compared to other invitation rounds.

In 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited only PNP and Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates. The last CEC-specific draw took place on September 14, 2021, and since then draws have been specifically focused on PNP candidates. The Government of Canada is currently experiencing a significant backlog of applications for permanent residence and only PNP draws are continuing in an effort to help provinces and territories meet their labour market needs.

In total, during 2021, IRCC issued 114,431 ITAs, which is the highest number since the launch of Express Entry in 2015.

Express Entry is Canada's main immigration pathway for economic immigrants. Candidates who qualify under an Express Entry program can upload a profile to the IRCC website. Once this step is completed, candidates receive a CRS score based on human capital factors such as age, education, language skills and work experience. IRCC holds draws and invites candidates to submit an application for permanent residence generally every two weeks.
