The Government of Canada announced a new Student Direct Stream for faster processing of Canada study permit applications for applicants from China, India, Vietnam and Philippines.
The introduction of this program is part of a wider initiative by the government to enhance its International Student Program and to help more international students begin their study pathway sooner.
Separate IRCC programs existed in the past to service students applying from these countries, however, these programs have now been merged into one Student Direct Stream.
In order to become eligible for this program, individuals must first obtain a letter of acceptance from a Canadian Designated Learning Institution (DLI). In addition, potential students must provide proof of tuition payment for the first year of study at a DLI in Canada, purchase of a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) of $10,000, completion of an upfront medical examination, and an IELTS score of at least 6 for English, or a TEF score of 7 for French, or graduation from a Canadian-curriculum high school.
