Due to higher numbers of immigrants settling in the province of Alberta, the government of Canada has decided to increase funding for settlement agencies in the province. It is expected that Alberta will receive over $64 million in order to assist immigrants settle into their new Canadian communities.

"The funding shift to Prairie provinces is not only designed to better mirror migration trends. It's also to help direct new arrivals to those strengthening economic regions that are not-so-traditional destinations. We're encouraging them to go to where the jobs are and often that's Alberta,” said Immigration Minister Jason Kenney.

Immigrant Calgary Services is the largest settlement agency in Calgary. Settlement agencies such as this one provide essential services to new immigrants in Canada, such as language training, career coaching, family support, and more. Immigrant Calgary Services will be using the increased funds to better inform newcomers of the services available to them as many immigrants are not aware of these services once they arrive in Canada.

As these settlement agencies greatly aid newcomers in becoming contributing members of Canadian society, immigrants who choose to settle in Alberta will greatly benefit from the increased government funding.
